Job summary

The UK ITS team is an arm of Global IT and is responsible for the delivery and operation or all IT infrastructures, networks, telecommunications, desktops, helpdesk as well as some production operations functions for the London branch.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual with an eye for detail to join our Network & Security team.

The engineer will conduct the following duties, in conjunction with colleagues in London, Paris, Singapore & New York:

·        Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
·        Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures, HA and backups.
·        Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
·        Replacing faulty network hardware components when required.
·        Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made.
·        Support and build on existing monitoring and automation scripts.
·        Create detailed documentation for offshore teams to refer to and provide support.
·        Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. Participate in network security monitoring and issue resolution as requested.
·        Collaborate with members of all other teams to adopt and promote best practices, comply with policies and procedures, and to plan and communicate changes following Change control ITIL process and procedures.

Candidate criteria

Minimal education level

Bachelor Degree / BSc Degree or equivalent

Academic qualification / Speciality

Preferably degree level education in a numerate subject

Required skills


·        Professional attitude, profile and impact.

·        At least 2 years’ experience of network engineering in a financial environment.

·        Linux experience & a keen Python advocate.

·        Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.

·        Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.

·        Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices.

·        Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.

·        Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation.

·        Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.

·        Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization.

·        A self-starter able to work independently and act on their own initiative but comfortable working in a team environment.

·        Ability to manage multiple work streams at once.

·        Good analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication skills

·        Dependable and flexible, when necessary, perform other duties as assigned

·        Results orientated / Delivery focused



·        Exposure to low latency technology and market connectivity

·        Exposure to Solace messaging platforms

·        Experience of working with third party vendors and network circuits.


Technical skills required

Networking background with experience in Arista or Cisco

Experience with Firewall management of FortiGate

Hands on experience with the implementation and troubleshooting of L2/L3 networks in a 2nd/3rd line support role

Good experience of corporate Wi-Fi solutions & Cisco ISE

Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies

Strong Team player with flexible mind-set and “can do” attitude

Ability to plan out work load and take on responsibility for projects
ITIL experience from a controlled environment or a qualification

Knowledge Management systems

Ideally CCNA qualified, but not essential

Driven, not afraid to challenge the status quo

Ability to work under pressure

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Excellent communications and presentation skills
