Job summary

Summary

 Working together with senior colleagues to originate debt capital markets (from covered bonds to capital instruments) for UK financial institutions (bank and insurance), in close co-operation with DCM Solutions, UK FI coverage, Syndicate, and Sustainable Investment Banking

Key Responsibilities

  • Market and obtain mandates from FI in the UK by working closely with the FI credit chain (coverage, syndicate, trading, sales). 
  • The professional will be working together with senior colleagues and be responsible for originating all types of debt across the capital structure, including senior unsecured, covered bonds, and subordinated debt/capital as well as liability management through regular market updates, idea generation, and pricing
  • The professional, together with senior colleagues, will be responsible for co-ordinating on execution of debt transactions on behalf of clients
  • Identify financial needs, regulatory capital and rating constraints of financial institutions in order to provide to clients an expertise in terms of structuring and marketing strategy for DCM including hybrids and liability management transactions.
  • Monitor regulatory environment and rating agencies methodologies on capital; analyse the effect of LM transactions as far as balance sheet effect and market perception.
  • Co-operate with other business lines within the bank as needed
  • Establish a network within the UK FI client teams

Control

  • Ensure issuers are cleared via coverage bankers / DCM origination regarding credit, legal, compliance and back office (KYC) policy.
  • Agree key client targets and projects with Head of DCM UK to be aligned with annual team objectives and financial targets.
  • League tables: rely on third party polls to determine rankings (sources such as IFR, Global Capital) in order to determine where the activity stands relative to the market competition but taking into account CA CIB client base relative to competitors’ coverage

Risk

  • Defer to syndicate / management for any approval level for underwritings which varies based on the type of underwriting, the market conditions, CA CIB’s role, the size of CA CIB’s underwriting, and in some cases, specific issuer attributes.

Minimal education level

Bachelor Degree / BSc Degree or equivalent

Academic qualification / Speciality

  • Degree preferably in Business, Economics, Accounting / Law or natural sciences (e.g. Maths, Physics)
  • FCA exams

Experience

  • Experience in the DCM business with UK FI clients

Required skills

  • Interpersonal skills both with clients and internally with bankers, colleagues
  • People Management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication
  • Excellent written and spoken English required for creating clients presentations and product marketing collateral and technical information

Technical skills required

  • Analytical skills – bond math, Financial analysis, Cost of Capital, Relative Value
  • DCM Product and Bond Market knowledge
