The Sustainable Investment Banking (SIB) team is one of the oldest (created in 2009) and most active teams in the market. The team is located in Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Dubai, Singapore, Frankfurt, Milan, Madrid and London.

The SIB team provides innovative advisory and structuring solutions to corporate and financial institution clients, helping them navigate the transition to a more sustainable economy. We work across asset classes, including green, social and sustainability-linked financing, responsible/ESG investing, and ESG rating advisory. The team collaborates closely with various business lines, including but not limited to Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Corporate and Leverage Finance (CLF), and structured finance (i.e. Energy and Real Assets), to embed sustainability considerations into financial transactions.

This 12-month internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainable finance and investment banking while working within a dynamic and purpose-driven environment.

On a day-to-day basis, the SIB UK intern will support the SIB UK Lead in the origination of sustainable finance opportunities. This will involve developing client presentations, conducting ESG risk assessments on new transactions, tracking developments to sustainable finance regulation, business pipeline management, structuring sustainable finance frameworks as well as engaging with Second Party Opinion providers and ESG investors.

This role is based in London covering predominantly UK clients along with a select number of Irish and Swiss based clients.


Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be part of the Sustainable Investment Banking team.

·       Support the origination and structuring of sustainable finance transactions, including green, social and sustainability-linked debt instruments
·       Conduct research and analysis on ESG trends, sustainable finance regulations, and industry best practices to inform business development efforts
·       Utilise client Sustainability Reports and reference external benchmarks such as SBTi etc. when assessing the emissions profile of clients
·       Develop presentations for client meetings and standard materials for external and internal marketing
·       Assist in preparing Sustainable Finance Frameworks and Impact Reporting indicators for clients seeking to issue sustainable finance debt instruments
·       Contribute to ESG risk assessments and due diligence by referencing the banks internal sustainable finance guidelines in collaboration with internal teams
·       Coordination with the Sustainable Investment Banking sector teams

Candidate criteria

Minimal education level

Bachelor Degree / BSc Degree or equivalent

Academic qualification / Speciality

  • Recently completed a BA, BSc or international equivalent degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Sustainability, or a related field with a good level of ESG qualifications (e.g. ESG related topics during degree, A-Level or equivalent)
  • Academic background in Sustainability / Environmental Finance / Environmental Science is desirable

Experience

  • Previous experience in banking or a client-facing finance role
  • Previous sustainable finance related experience within a Bank, Asset Manager, SPO provider, ESG Rating Agency etc is desirable
